The Art of Getting Back Up

We were really inspired by talking with Mitzi Luedtke at Humphrey Public Schools, where her motto is “teaching kids how to fail.” To accept our mistakes, grow and learn from them is a vital aspect of improving. And nothing beats the look when she saw Kaibot, finding exceptional interest in the bug detection feature!

Not too long ago, becoming a teacher was considered one of the most reliable, meaningful career paths you could choose. Decent hours. A solid pension. Job security. Great respect in the community. It wasn’t just a job- it was the key foundation for building your life around.

For many, it was more than that. Teaching offered purpose. A chance to shape young lives, give back, make a real difference and watch the newer generations grow.

But talk to would-be educators today and the picture looks very different. Instead of stability, they’re facing uncertainty. Budget cuts, overburdened workloads, shrinking autonomy, and rising burnout are now part of the job description. Layer in the growing presence of AI in classrooms—automating tasks once considered deeply human, and that role starts to feel less like a long-term calling and more like a short-term gamble…

We’re seeing a shift. A subtle but significant one, one ever pushing with the tides of the world. We must remain fluid in nature, and with our learning. The kind that makes students question whether to pursue the profession at all; and makes the current teachers wonder how much longer they can keep going. If it’s worth it.

So where did things start to change? And more importantly, what do we do now? How can we adapt?

When “Find Your Passion” Doesn’t Pan Out

For years, we told students the familiar story we were told: go to school, get good grades, find a job you love. That was the formula for a successful life. But now? Many are discovering that the jobs they trained for aren’t what they imagined (or worse, they’re disappearing altogether!) This formula just doesn’t always work anymore. There just isn’t the need for human work when we have automation working more effectively.

More and more, we’re seeing people shift tracks mid-degree or even mid-career (or even just give up mid-way!) There are a TON of new fields to be exploring roles in, such as UX, robotics, game design, AI, even emerging fields like cyber therapy. The question isn’t whether change is coming; it’s imminent, already here! We just need to adapt.

The real question is: are we preparing learners for the kind of careers they’ll actually have?

Not Just About Learning to Code

Yes, technical skills are important, and yes, AI fluency matters.

BUT!

Handing out Python worksheets isn’t enough! You can’t place all these limitless tools and resources and not direct students on how to utilise them. Students need more than just the ability to code. They need the ability to think, to connect and apply it to everyday life.

That means strengthening soft skills like creativity, problem-solving, adaptability, teamwork, and computational thinking. These are the skills that still set humans apart—and they’ll only grow more valuable as automation spreads.

What’s more, these aren’t just “tech” skills. They’re life skills. Whether a student ends up in marketing, medicine, agriculture, or something entirely new, these abilities will help them navigate and succeed.

AI-mplementation or AI-pplication?

Schools and institutions are working hard—but many are stuck playing catch-up.

  • Some universities have started weaving AI, ethics, and design into their degrees. But many programs still feel dated.

  • Career agencies are funding bootcamps and retraining efforts. But often, there’s a gap between what’s being taught and what’s actually in demand.

  • K–12 schools are trying to squeeze coding into packed curriculums—while also meeting test score benchmarks that haven’t changed much since the early 2000s.

Everyone’s trying their hardest to make the best out of a bad situation. But the system itself needs a rethink.

How Kai’s Education Fits In

At Kai’s Education, our focus isn’t just teaching students to code—it’s teaching them how to solve problems, think critically, and work creatively with others.

Our tools—KaiBot and Kai’s Clan—were designed to help students develop these essential future-ready skills through hands-on, engaging learning experiences.

  • With KaiBot, even our youngest learners are exploring sequencing, logic, and collaboration through screen-free play.

  • With Kai’s Clan, older students step into virtual worlds and real-world challenges that stretch their thinking and deepen their understanding of STEM concepts.

This isn’t about learning for the sake of it. It’s about giving kids the tools to grow into thinkers, makers, and leaders—no matter what the future holds.

A Shift in Mindset

Instead of asking, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Maybe, it’s time to ask, “What problems do you want to solve?”

The future of work won’t revolve around neat job titles anymore. It’ll require a blend of skills—technical, human, creative—and a mindset that’s open to change. That’s exactly what we aim to build into every Kai’s Education lesson.

And we’ve seen what’s possible when students are given the space to experiment, fail, and try again. It’s not about mastering one career path. It’s about being ready for whatever comes next, and preparing yourself for what the future holds.

You Only Fail When You Stop Trying

Looking Ahead

Students don’t just need preparation. They need permission—to explore, to take risks, to believe they have a role to play in shaping what comes next.

At Kai’s Education, that’s what drives us. And whether it’s through a silly little robot, Marshie’s adventure at the market, or digital collaborative adventures, we’re proud to help light that spark.

Let’s keep building a future where learners aren’t just ready for the world—they’re ready to shape it.
