Teach the Teacher
How one robotics session flipped the script—and why we’re here for it.
We’ve all seen it happen.
That spark.
The moment a student gets it—and then turns around to show someone else.
But what happens when that “someone else”… is their teacher?
That’s exactly what played out at Eagle Heights Elementary in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. In a scene that felt equal parts joyful, curious, and quietly revolutionary, fifth graders from Kelsey Kelzer’s Discovery Group ran an after-school robotics training session—for adults. Staff from around the building gathered not to instruct, but to learn… from their students.
Armed with Kaibots, training outlines, and a whole lot of confidence, these students became the guides. And the teachers? They became the learners.
“They are teaching other teachers [today], but they are the ones who taught me, too.”
Kelsey Kelzer, Discovery Group Leader
It’s a story we instantly connected with—because this is what we love to see at Kai’s Education: students stepping up, taking ownership, and discovering just how powerful they are.

When Students Lead, Learning Expands
Let’s be honest—teaching something isn’t just a sign of understanding, it’s a whole new level of learning. It takes confidence. It takes communication. It takes empathy and awareness of others’ needs. That’s exactly what these fifth graders demonstrated as they led their teacher training session with poise and purpose.
The students created their own Kaibot Teacher Training Outlines, complete with talking points, step-by-step demonstrations, and guiding questions for teachers. At one table, a group excitedly showed off how to make the Kaibot spin in a circle 88 times—because, well, why not? It was fun, it was curious, and it got people asking how and why.
They weren’t just reciting steps—they were thinking, explaining, adapting. One student even led their entire session in Spanish, effortlessly blending language skills with tech confidence. It was an incredible example of what happens when students are trusted to lead: they rise to it—and often go further than we expect.
For us, this isn’t just a feel-good moment. It’s a reminder that student voice isn’t a bonus—it’s a necessity in modern education.
It’s Never Just About the Robot
Yes, the Kaibot was at the center of this event—but the real magic? That happened around it. We saw collaboration. Creativity. Leadership. And maybe most importantly: self-belief.
At Kai’s Education, this is exactly why we build the tools we do. Sure, students are learning coding fundamentals and STEM concepts—but they’re also developing the kinds of soft skills that last a lifetime: public speaking, problem-solving, listening, and teaching.
We’re constantly evolving our platform to reflect what we hear from the field. And this story from Eden Prairie just reinforced something we’ve long believed: the best learning moments often come from the students themselves.
We’re listening—not just to teachers, but to students—and we’re taking notes.
Pathways, Not Prescriptions
There’s no straight line to success anymore. The world is changing too fast for that. Some students may go on to careers in robotics or software development. Others might find their spark in teaching, communication, bilingual education, or creative problem-solving. That’s why we design our tools to open doors, not close them.
What we saw in that classroom was a pathway moment. A moment where a student realized they weren’t just learning—they were leading. And when students see themselves in that light, everything shifts.
Learning becomes personal. It becomes powerful. It becomes something they want to pass on.
When we let students explore different roles—learner, teacher, creator, guide—we give them the space to discover who they are and who they might become.
Coming Soon: Students on the Mic
We were so inspired by what happened at Eagle Heights that we’re inviting some of them to join us in an upcoming webinar later this year. That’s right—they’ll be presenting again, this time to a wider audience, sharing their experiences, insights, and maybe even a few surprises about what it’s like to teach the teachers.
We believe the education community needs to hear more student voices—and we’re making space for that.
Stay tuned. We’ll be sharing the date soon.

You can read the full Eden Prairie story here—and we highly recommend it. It’s a beautiful example of what can happen when students are given the tools, trust, and opportunity to lead.
Until then, we invite you to reflect:
- When was the last time a student taught you something?
- What did it show you about their strengths—and your own?
