Many students, especially from underserved communities, face difficulties in reaching grade-level proficiency. National assessments like the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) show that about 34% of U.S. 4th graders and 27% of 8th graders read at or above proficient levels.
So, in today’s fast-paced educational landscape, educators’ curriculums need to be jam-packed with content in order to teach our kids the vital information necessary for their futures. We must equip students with a broad range of skills that will prepare them for future challenges. So, we combined literacy with coding in order to teach two essential skills, using this approach to merge two critical areas of learning into one engaging and comprehensive curriculum. In our upcoming webinar, we’ll explore how this integration works using Kaibot, a user-friendly educational robot. By blending storytelling with coding activities, we empower students to create narratives while simultaneously developing logical thinking, problem-solving, and technical proficiency. Doing this, we ensure that children not only strengthen their reading and writing abilities but also gain hands-on experience with technology, preparing them for the digital age.
Throughout the webinar, educators will discover various techniques to incorporate coding into literacy lessons. For instance, students can use coding commands to develop interactive stories or animate characters, giving life to their narratives through code. Conversely, teachers can introduce coding concepts within the context of a story, making technical learning more relatable and accessible. With Kaibot, students engage both their creative and analytical minds, making literacy and coding lessons more dynamic and effective. The session will also provide practical examples and lesson plans that demonstrate how to teach technological skills through the lens of storytelling, fostering both creativity and computational thinking.
